Why Are You Still Waiting?

Group Meeting: Session Three took on it's own journey (after the DVD/television refused to participate) and found us sharing as well as being transparent concerning where we are as a group and separtelly not just financially, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually, truthfully, and trustfully (yes, trustfully)
 since beginning the course.

In our sharing, we found that individually, we are not alone. That there is a common thread weaving in and out of each of our life's story.  Our monsters, our challenges, our fears, and even our desires, goals and plans, although called by different names in our voices, all had a co-partnering villian, called PROCRASTINATION.  Well, tonight is the perfect time for the last of the three articles I promised by Kevin Nuber, a fellow believer in Jesus Christ and excellent teacher.  Part Three continues where we left off in our Group Meeting today, it's entitled:
If You're Wasting Precious Time, Knock It Off.

God Bless-

If You’re Wasting Precious Time, Knock It Off

Believe me, I am a world-class procrastinator. Just as it’s important to me to work hard (and pray hard!) at stopping this behavior, it’s important that you do too. Unlike money, the time we spend can never be recovered. It’s vitally important to use and manage our time wisely.
Procrastination is a huge time waster. When we continue to procrastinate, a lot of our purpose goes unrealized. This is a tragedy!

It can be hard to break procrastination because it is a behavior learned early in life and is hard wired into our subconscious mind. But it can be done. To break the habit of procrastination, start doing a task at hand immediately. When there is something that needs to be done, start doing it right away. Do not wait until you are “in the mood” for doing it…that time will most likely never come.

Starting to do things immediately will effectively break the old habit of procrastination. You can start with the easy tasks and finish these first. Once the easy tasks are out of the way, you will start to feel good about your accomplishments and this will spark your mood to do more.

Don’t aim for perfection when doing the task at hand. Perfection is God’s job. What matters most is getting started and then you can gain momentum to finish the bigger jobs ahead. Always pursuing perfection is a waste of your time and effort.

Write down your plan. It is very effective to have a daily plan because you can see which things are most important and which need to be addressed immediately. By writing down your plan, you can be more productive and actually save time by not doing the unnecessary and/or less important tasks.
And be sure when writing down your plan to make a schedule of what you will be doing for the entire day. This should include all the activities that you will do from the beginning to the end of the day.

Finally, set a deadline for your planned activities, making sure that you can finish the job at hand within the established time frame. Don’t let a few small failures along the way derail your plan. Put procrastination where it belongs…under your feet!

  2. For me, procrastination has been rearing his ugly head since first grade. I remember reading one of my report cards from back then where the teacher stated I needed improvement in "using time wisely". That has always stuck with me and I have used this stronghold as a crutch for years. "That's just how I am; I have been this way since first grade." The devil is a LIE! Today's communion message on focus was a real on-time word and blessed me to the point of action. I admitted at our last meeting that I often feel numb and indifferent about many things and even people. I have had many revelations this past week all leading up to the truth that God gave me free will and I choose to not stay stuck and passive. I felt accomplished as I got my lesson plans done for work, paid bills for the month (yes, using the envelope method), spent QT with my daughter, finished a paper for grad school, and even went to the gym! Not all in one day of course, but feeling victorious over procrastination has given me the confidence to tackle it head on when it rears its ugly head. I choose to walk by faith and not sit watching life pass me by! Love, peace, and hair grease :) Princess C

  3. sis jo, No, you are not alone; however, God wants to see you dominate over procrastination so that your legacy can see a live, viable, person that they know, accomplish great things just by getting things taken care of immediately! The standard and level of lifestyle living and giving God's way for you has begun to increase---be wise NOT to put off what MUST be done today just because you "think" you can do it tomorrow.

  4. Princess C, I like how you said, "feeling victorious over procrastionation" because it is a battle; yet you set out to DEFEAT the enemy that has come to crush, kill, steal, and destroy what you know is deep within you. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED -- Continue to experience VICTORY -- can't wait to read it when you write about it one day!

  5. Boy! This is an on-time message. I have been dealing with the Procrastination Monster for the last 6 months it seems in the area of reprograming my body to get the heck out of bed earlier so i can pray longer, read longer and exercise. In most areas, I'm learning to just "do it" and at least get it started, but in this area, I have to admit, I've been siking myself out and I feel lazy. Financially - Procrastination comes up when I decide to put up a little money every paycheck towards my emergency fund. It seems "something" always takes precedence over it at that time.

  6. Very well expressed Blessed and Prospering!

Concerning the matter of that little emergency find that has a best friend called, "something," have you considered what is termed, "Direct Deposit" by allowing your employer to deduct a predetermined (let's say, $60.00 each month)from your pay; thus eliminating "something" from dressing up as "precedence" while overcoming the failure to save and see your goal of a healthy emergency fund grow? HTH!
